I went to the village with my family — and suddenly the insoles started turning red. First spots appeared, then I looked closer and saw a red line along the edge on the reverse side. Where the foot does not touch the insole at all, and the insole rubs against the inside of the shoe.
I had almost managed to feel that my “heart had started to hurt”. Then I stopped. Enough. I drove the bad thoughts away and started thinking critically.
In the village I wore the insoles on a bare foot. Dust, small stones, sweat, humidity, constant friction. All of this appeared at the same time as the spots. So this article is not about how to diagnose yourself by insole colour. It is about something else: why an unusual mark is worth attention, but should not be turned into a sentence.

The manufacturer links a colour change to attention to health. The colour itself does not make a diagnosis: first check friction, moisture, dust and contact with the shoe. If symptoms are alarming, seek medical help.

What the manufacturer says about colour
In the description of corrective anion insoles the manufacturer suggests treating a colour change as a signal to pay attention to certain body systems:
white — lungs;
black — kidneys;
green — liver;
red — heart;
yellow — spleen.
There is also an important caveat: changes are individual and do not happen to everyone.
This is the manufacturer position. You can hear it, take it as a personal reason to ask “how do I actually feel?” and, if needed, book an ordinary diagnosis. But insole colour does not make a diagnosis, does not identify an organ and does not exclude a problem if the colour did not change.

Why a red mark could appear with no link to the heart
My mark had one detail that cannot be ignored: the red line ran along the edge, on the reverse of the insole. The foot does not reach there. The shoe does, constantly.
Friction against the shoe
The insole constantly crumples and moves inside the shoe. Where the edge rubs the lining, the material can wear, change shade or absorb particles of the neighbouring layer.
Dye transfer
In the shoe industry this is called dye migration: one material colours another in close contact. For shoe uppers, linings and insoles there is a separate GOST ISO 17701-2013 on dye migration. Moisture, heat and constant friction give such transfer more chances.
A bare foot, sweat and dust
A sock takes part of the moisture, dust and friction. Without it all of this stays between the foot, the insole and the shoe. This is ordinary physics of wear, not a sign that something is wrong with the person.
The limit of claims
A real sensor and a material that simply changed are not the same
Laboratories do create colour sensors for sweat. But such a sensor has a known reagent, a defined indicator, a measurement range and a comparison with a reference method. A visible spot on an insole cannot be treated as a medical analysis. It can be treated as an observation.
Practice
What to do if the insoles change colour
See exactly where the mark appeared. Under the foot, along the edge, under the heel, near a seam, on one side or symmetrically — these are different stories.
Photograph the insoles and the shoes. Better in daylight and before cleaning.
Change one factor for a few days. Wear clean light socks, change shoes or move the insoles to another pair. Do not change everything at once.
Assess how you feel separately from the insoles. Is there shortness of breath, pain or pressure in the chest, palpitations, unusual weakness, swelling? These are health questions, not material-colour questions.
If there are real alarming symptoms — seek help at once. Chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, cold sweat, nausea, near-fainting, pain in the arm, back, neck or jaw need urgent assessment. Do not wait for the spot to become brighter.

Why did only one insole turn red?
One side may touch the shoe more, receive more moisture or rub against a seam and lining. Compare both insoles, the inner surface of the shoes and the zones where the mark appeared.
Can I keep wearing the insoles if the colour changed?
If there is no pain, skin irritation or other discomfort, first check the shoes, moisture and the material against the manufacturer instructions. If the foot is uncomfortable or the skin reacts, pause and find the cause.
